Nothing Personal is a series that began with the way a young girl related to herself and gradually took shape through her struggle with her own body, mind, and life. The project emerged from a life confined within a room in Ankara. Over time, it grew out of the discomfort of realizing that I was, in a sense, watching my own death unfold—and from the urge to photograph everything around me that still felt alive. These photographs come from my desire to look at myself through a vast mirror, because the person I turn inward toward the most is myself. I use my own body and the environment I live in as subjects in my photographs. Even when we think our attention is fixed on a particular point, a place, or the world around us, the mind is always circling back to itself.
